You Are NOT My Audience – Video

I have a confession to make. I took Dojo (my German Shepard) running and before I had a chance to shower, I decided to make this video.

Consider yourself lucky this video post is not coming at you in Smell-O-Vision.

Before yo play the video, hop over to Mashable to nominate Triberr to win this year’s Up-and-Coming Social Media Service award.

I’m here and I don’t know what I think! LOL! I get it…I can see it. But …? Are you saying that the only way to measure the effect (wrong word. I know) you have on your audience, or the only way you’ll know if you’ve reached them or influenced them is if they act (ie buy, or hire)? In other words, it’s great to have friends holding up signs on the sidewalk pointing to your car wash, but until you get the cars in the lot you’re essentially just having a party? HAHA! Love it. I think I’m starting to get it. Thanks.

I’m with you here Dino. I’ve been telling my clients and everyone else that will listen that there are two groups of people that come to your blog and that both are equally important:

    1. Your potential ideal customers – a very small fraction of the total

    2. Your readers, fans, etc – 95% of the total and the people that help you become and show that you are the authority

Both of these groups are important. However the second group will leave comments and share your content on social media networks. Your potential ideal customers will most likely never do either of those.

Having said that though, you can’t have one without the other so everything we do must be for both.

you can’t have one without the other so everything we do must be for both.. Totally true. Audience will not show up if the show is not on :-) @RobertDempsey

  • troublesometots

Actually I think I AM your audience. Only I have no money and thus am just a reader :)

BTW – if we’re in a stage production together I need to talk to somebody in costume design because mine simply isn’t working for me. Seriously, who picked this out?!?

    • http://diyblogger.net/ dino_dogan

LMAO…thats funny…I think the entirety of social media can use a costume designer …well, except for briansolis he clearly has us all beat lol @troublesometots

  • maryhruth

A profound and useful notion, Dino! Yes! Because the deepest meaning of the internet is not economic, it is social, it proves that life is about a whole lot more than the almighty dollar, that our responsibilities reach miles and miles beyond our personal ambitions. We’re creating this play altogether, we can at last operate with awareness and compassion on the stage that is the world.

      Mary for president :-) @maryhruth

  • ScottScanlon

I second it. We take this strategy to the extreme and seems to work well for us in a few niches.

    • http://diyblogger.net/ dino_dogan

Hey Scott…Id love to know what these niche sites are….cuz some (like credit card debt blogs, for example) are almost impossible to generate a public audience for. @ScottScanlon

  • http://www.gnarld.com/ israel.kendall

Interesting take on the topic, makes sense….kind of.

    • http://diyblogger.net/ dino_dogan

Let it marinate…I feel like I really did a piss pour job of explaining it, but if you think about it, it makes total sense. @israel.kendall

  • Chrisina_Loyd

This explains a lot for me. I always wondered how certain bloggers make money. The metaphor works :)

    • http://diyblogger.net/ dino_dogan

Right on…I used to have few affiliate ads on my site and have made few pennies that way…but bulk of my income comes from consulting work, and none of my clients are actually on my site for more than 5 minutes. They come, they see, they leave and either call or not…@Chrisina_Loyd

  • BruceSallan

YOU/Triberr SHOULD be the winner! Regardless, YOU are the winner in my circle/life/opinion! Phew! THAT smelled!

BTW, I resent this co-star status! I ALWAYS insist on TOP BILLING, DD!

    • http://diyblogger.net/ dino_dogan

hehe…you are the rock star in your own right, baby @BruceSallan

  • geekdrummer

Glad that I can be one of your co-stars. It is great to see being so honest on a blog. Thanks man!

    • http://diyblogger.net/ dino_dogan

thnx. Im a bit of a drummer enthusiast myself. I play guitar but I a love my drums…free therapy :-) @geekdrummer

      • geekdrummer

Man yeah….I saw that on your profile! Drummers are the coolest :-) I have been playing since 7th grade and at 51 years old now…that is a long time. 51 and still rockin”!

It sure would be nice to quit my “job” and play drums for a living. I have tried that several times but it just never hit. That’s ok though…I get to play at least 2-3 times per week. And yes…great therapy. I love getting in that zone and knock all the worries out of your brain.

What kind of kit do you play?

I am in IT which I believe you were a network engineer…correct? I have done a lot of that. I am on the security end now. Pretty stressful these days, but I do love computers and everything technology!

I will go back through your site…do you have a post on how you came to be a blogger?

Hope you have a great day man!

        Scott

        • http://diyblogger.net/ dino_dogan

I used to have a 50s Slingerland kit, which I traded in for a Yamaha kit…which is actually pretty sweet. I splurged on the snare drum tho…costs more than the kit itself lol @geekdrummer

        • geekdrummer

@dino_dogan I used to have a 70’s Slingerland kit and would love to have it now. I play a Pearl kit…it is a cheap one but with good heads it sounds great. I know what you mean about the snare. It is kind of like have great cymbals…lol

      • geekdrummer

Oh yeah, I meant to say as well….I have 3 dogs…haha. I am also into fitness as well, but on the bodybuilding side. I did my first natural bodybuilding show 3 years ago at 48. Was that scary!!!
