The Importance Of Blogging And Content Creation
In this episode of the Nuclear Chowder Online Marketing For Small Business podcast, I am talking about the importance of creating content. With a specific focus on blogging.
Content is no longer something website owners should do. It is something they absolutely have to do.
In my last podcast where I interviewed Gary Vaynerchuk, he put it really plainly. If you have not listened to it, you should. And remember… Gary is bad cop. I’m good cop!
Proof Creating Content Works
The proof is in the pudding. In January I put my money where my mouth is and began creating regular content on a brand new website. I wanted to demonstrate it from the ground up.
Yesterday I received an inquiry from a person who Googled ‘Social Media Expert’ and found me. That is a super competitive search term that my relatively new website was found for. Why? Because of content… that’s why.
A few important things happened here:
1: He Googled something horrifically competitive and found me. But that’s only the first part. It doesn’t matter one bit if the next thing isn’t there.
2: He liked my content. It positioned me as an authority.
3: He called me. I have multiple and obvious mechanisms on the site for someone to contact me.
What does content do for you? Very simply it can help to get you found on the search engines and then, if the content is good, sells you before you even open your mouth.
The Technical Reasons For Content
On the podcast, my SEO manager joins us to talk about the technical SEO reasons you need to have content. As well as some ways you can “optimize” your content. But Google has thrown down the gauntlet. It is no longer an option.
I highly recommend having your own self hosted blog. That means you have to have a hosting account. We will talk more about this in future podcasts as well but there are some great SEO reasons for this.

Yes You Can Create Content Too
Creating content is not as hard as many people think. Just spend the time talking about what you do in your business. Answer those questions you get asked probably every day by clients and prospects. Share information about your services and products. How do they help people? Just talk about what you know best.
By far the biggest objection I get about blogging is: “But I don’t have time”. Now stay tuned for future podcsasts where I will share how to make it as easy as possible. But the ugly truth is, it does take time. You either have to spend the time or spend the money for someone else to spend the time.
But here it is… the even uglier truth. Creating content is marketing. And you probably already know this; you have to make time for marketing.
