Ford’s Newest Marketing Strategy: Buy Camry
I almost fell off the chair when I heard Mike Rowe (of the Dirty Jobs fame) in the latest Ford Fusion commercial with some nameless lady “customer” telling us to BUY CAMRY.
WHAT!?!?!?
I think this commercial is brand new, I couldn’t find it anywhere online. If someone knows where I can get it, please let me know, I’d love to include it with this post. Anyways…
Apparently the lady customer was going to buy a Toyota Camry but then Mike showed her all the benefits of buying a Ford.
At the very end of the commercial, the lady looks right at the camera and out of her mouth comes “BUY CAMRY”.
In the process she made a subtle waving gesture. You had to be watching right at her in order to notice.
What Ford (using the “customer” as their mouth piece) was trying to tell us is “bye Camry”.
As in, the lady was going to buy a Camry but now that she knew all the benefits of Ford Fusion she was saying good bye to Camry. That’s what they wanted the message to be.
But all I heard was “BUY CAMRY”.
The entire Ford team who shot the commercial must have been drinking stupid juice.
I cant believe no one pointed out that they were telling us to buy a Camry.
Could the lady (or the writers) be an implant from Toyota people? Corporate subterfuge is commonplace in high stakes games.
